Post #3 – Pre-camp preparation in Nanning

Hi all,

Saturday and Sunday summary:

Good session of  “what goes on in school”. An overview of expectation and how we (the teachers)  might prepare for it.

Teams met to discuss plans and division of labor. That ended by 4:30pm. Free time from then on.

Sunday, a worship service with Canadian team did a skid. Phil C talked about “Men’s biggest problem”.  Anger. And how to deal with it.  Austrailian team provided the music and the room was full of joy and anticipation.

All will check out of this hotel in Nanning and get ready to board several mini buses for our camp by 11:00am.

Our US team members from Oak Park said threy felt blessed by the teaching & people; and look forward to the next two weeks.

In closing, we thank you for your continued prayers.

Post # 2 – Friday, We’ve arrived safely

Hotel has internet access!
The WCPC team of 8 flew from San Francisco in separate small groups per individual’s own itinerary. All convened here today in Nanning (the Capital of Guangxi Province). This is 400 miles west of Hong Kong, and about 7,000 miles from Walnut Creek. We will be staying here for summer camp preparation until Sunday noon when all will board buses for our target destination.

Today, it is registration, greet and meet for the International team (100+ members) from several countries. Each teaching-team of 3 to 4 persons is getting organized and preparing for lessons. You can hear the buzz all around! Class materials (if not brought from home) will be purchased here at a super Wal-mart.
Cheers.

Thank you for your prayers.

China Short Term Mission team commissioned

The team was commissioned Sunday, 06/20/2010, with mission dates from July 9 through 24.  This year, WCPC sends 8 members to the Summer English Language Camp in Du’An, Guangxi, China. They are: Phil Chan, Jillian Chan, Ariel Chan, Jon Lee, Rubecca Lee, Pam Taylor, Stephen Lau & Regina Lau.

God sends us there to teach conversational English in 2 high schools. English is a required course for college entrance examinations, and it is important. The camp will have 600 students and 108 teachers from several countries.

This China Short Term Mission BLOG will be updated as internet access is feasible.  Please follow our progress here for reports from China and become a partner in this mission by praying for us with the following prayer requests:

  • Travel safety both going there and returning
  • Protection for health from food, illness, insects, heat and fatigue
  • Team unity and synergistic relationships among both WCPC and other teams
  • Wisdom as we teach and build relationships with students inside and outside of class
  • The Holy Spirit to prepare the students’ hearts to be open to the love of Jesus
  • That the Chinese will clearly see the love of Christ through us and be drawn to Him
  • No problems with the government security officers or disruption of our activities
  • The “divine appointments” that God has already scheduled for us
  • For all team members that God will work in and through our lives in ways that will deepen our relationship with Christ and bring Him glory.
